A tea ceremony and a dinner reception are ravishing in red

Red is considered the luckiest colour in Chinese culture. It is auspicious, symbolizing good fortune and happiness, vitality, fertility and celebration. We can’t think of a more perfect time to decorate with red than at a wedding! If you’re thinking about using this beautiful colour for your big day, we hope this wedding photographed by Adam Ong Photography will be just the inspiration you’re looking for.

Tea ceremony decor at the groom’s family home in Kuala Lumpur.

Our couple was tied up with the wedding planning for their Hong Kong ceremony and reception so they were happy to leave the decor for their Kuala Lumpur reception to their family members here and to us. The couple and their family wanted “something red as a classic nod to Chinese tradition”, but with a modern twist and “not too gaudy”. A blend of reds and pinks were picked to create a more contemporary look.

Contemporary Chinese grandeur with minimal accessories but heaps of style!

The groom’s sister remembered seeing our work in a magazine years ago and got in touch with us through a family friend. For her, the flower wall set up for the tea ceremony was one of the most memorable parts of the wedding decor.

In the evening, a grand reception was held at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur…

Some of the round guest tables with tall centrepieces.

The groom’s family had a vague theme and simple preferences, so we helped to plan the details for the decor such as types of flowers, table layouts, floral arrangements, and centrepieces. As the groom’s sister preferred a “more clean colour palette”, foliage was omitted from the floral arrangements.

Viking tables with tall floral arrangements.

The groom’s mum was concerned about the height of the centrepieces for some of the guest tables. She had preferred to keep them all low so that conversations could take place across the dinner tables, but a compromised was reached, and everyone was happy.

Left: The gorgeous wedding cake, created by the chefs at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, based on the bride’s specifications. Right: Close-up of a low centrepiece for the round guest table.

Since we used tall arrangements on the viking tables on both sides of the centre aisle, which leads to the main table, we decided to create a lush and low centrepiece to complement the whole look. It would also be something that the groom’s mum would have wanted.

Lots of floral detail mixed with glittering sequins and candlelight push the glam factor in this red-themed reception.

Did you enjoy the photographs from this beautiful wedding as much as we enjoyed creating it? If you had second thoughts about going red for your wedding, we hope that this wedding has changed your mind!

From the groom’s sister…. “Wishing Tree is the dream team that you can trust in creating a beautiful wedding, and we are truly grateful for their expertise! We gave them quite a short period of time to work with, and yet they were extremely efficient and delivered way beyond our expectations. It was such a pleasure to work with Lily, who was incredibly helpful and supportive. We did not engage the help of a wedding planner and experienced some difficulties with other aspects of the planning, but Lily provided crucial and valuable advice that helped us overcome various setbacks. Thank you, Lily and the Wishing Tree team, from the bottom of our hearts. We look forward to more inspiring creations by your amazing team!”

Hugo + Janice at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur

Hello from Hugo and Janice’s beautiful wedding! Today’s featured wedding is all about prettiness and gorgeousness, soft colours, textures, and mixing everything together with just the right balance. We love everything about this wedding decor and we hope that you do too!

We are so pleased to share some beautiful photos of the decor that evening, captured by the talents at Fixer Photography.

The gorgeously lush photo wall was one of Janice’s favourites of the evening.

We met our lovely couple through their wedding planner, Natasha Khoo of The Peak Xperience. “Natasha recommended several decorators to us, but after reviewing each of their portfolios we decided to go with Wishing Tree for our wedding,” says Janice.

Our bride started by choosing a pastel colour palette, and continued to work out the other details with Natasha and The Peak Xperience team. As Janice is allergic to flowers and isn’t very familiar with the different types of flowers, she left the flower selection to us. Thank you for entrusting us with such an important task!

The pastel floral arrangements lining the aisle beautifully complement the pink and blues.

It’s not very often that we get a colourful backdrop against which to decorate, and our bride made a great decision to go with a pastel palette. However, Janice had one major concern – that we did not use white flowers in the decor. No problem!

TIffany Blue table linens provided a striking backdrop for gold accents, deep gold chiavari chairs, and pleasing pastels.

The ballroom simply came alive with the beautiful bright blues, pinks, deep golds, sparkly glassware and shiny vases! Janice tells us, “I loved the entire wedding atmosphere that was created with a dreamy, wonderland vibe made possible with the impeccable florals on the Viking tables and the walkway.”

The tablescape looks gorgeous from any angle. Adding yellow florals to the pastel palette provides a pop of freshness against the blue.

Viking tables line the entire walkway with happy hues and lush florals.

If you’ve noticed, increasingly more and more couples are using Viking tables in their wedding dinners in Malaysia. We love the use of Viking tables on either side of the aisle, as they not only create a different type of tablescape in Chinese banquet but the centerpieces along these tables double up as floral decor for the aisle.

A black-tie wedding dinner looks fresh and bright with these beautiful colours.

Our point about using Viking tables along either side of the aisle is illustrated above. It is beautiful, different, and functional!

Thank you so much, Hugo and Janice, for sharing your beautiful wedding and most treasured day with us and our readers. We wish you both the very best in your new journey together!

“As Janice is allergic to flowers and not very familiar with the different types of flowers, we left the flower selection to the good hands of Wishing Tree. With Lily’s extensive experience, and with her efficient collaboration with The Peak Xperience, Wishing Tree worked out a a beautiful and stunning showpiece for our wedding, including the stage backdrop with the handmade flowers. It was definitely one of our most memorable nights that Wishing Tree has created, not just for us, but also for all our guests.” – Hugo and Janice

Soren + Lavinne at Marini’s On 57

Hello dear readers! We know it has been a while since we updated this space with weddings to inspire you – but we hope these beautiful pics and story from Soren and Lavinne’s big day will make up for it.

Using a monochromatic palette of black, white, and grey, with accents of gold and silver, the breathtaking backdrop of the Petronas Twin Towers from the 57th floor, and with the stylish influences of fashion icons Jimmy Choo and Keith Kee, you know this wedding day perfection. Let’s check out the photos, courtesy of the talented Jan and William of Axioo.

An elegant palette of black, white, and grey, with gold and silver accents for a touch of luxury.

While doing her research on wedding decor, Lavinne came across a wedding decorated by Wishing Tree in collaboration with Mint Events & Soirees on Facebook, and the rest, as they say, was history. We are so honoured to have been chosen for your most treasured day, Lavinne and Soren.

Black and white are our couple’s favourite colours, and “grey was added to our palette as a symbol of compromise between our favourite colours,” says Lavinne. “We added gold and silver for a bit of extravagance to the theme.”

Beautiful Lavinne in her gorgeous gown created by Rosana by Lasposa.

“Most girls have a dream wedding. Mine was a cozy garden wedding,” Lavinne tells us. “Soren influenced our decision to host our wedding at Marini’s On 57, overlooking the magnificent Kuala Lumpur skyline. In fact, we were the first couple to have had a wedding reception at Marini’s!” she quips.

Thanks to Soren and Lavinne, their’s was the highest wedding we’ve ever decorated!

Lush florals for the wedding venue entrance, and a beautiful welcome for guests.

A custom, larger-than-life wishing tree is a focal point for reception area.

Although she calls herself “a perfectionist”, Lavinne was a thorough bride.. which you all know we appreciate, because it just makes us that much more accurate in pinning down the look, style, mood, and ambiance that our couples desire for their big day. Our bride shared a long brainstorming meeting with us and her wedding planner Natasha of The Peak Xperience, to pick out every detail of her dream wedding, from types of flowers to linens, lighting options and floral arrangements, accents and decor ornaments… the whole works!

A garden wedding 57 floors above ground, how breathtaking!

An exchange of vows, witnessed also by the two of the world’s most iconic buildings.

What a treat for their overseas guests to experience this beautiful wedding with the towering Petronas Twin Towers as a backdrop.

“We did it!”

Some of our readers who are planning their wedding may be feeling a bit stressed out and frazzled with all the details – it is totally normal. But, as Lavinne found out…

“Honestly, planning an intimate wedding wasn’t as easy as I thought,” she says, “especially since our wedding took place in another country, a wedding planner is highly recommended. We had a few break downs as we tend to aim for perfection, but we stuck together and reminded each other to take things more lightly, and laughed at things that didn’t go as planned. After all, it was not an event to impress anyone. It was about the love we share and the vows we will make to each other; everything else is a bonus. With that belief, our wedding was one of the BEST days of our lives!”

Although this was the first time a wedding had been held at Marini’s On 57, Soren and Lavinne pulled off a beautiful event in one of the most stunning venues in the city. Let’s take a look, shall we?

The next photo accompanies a very cute story about Soren. Lavinne tells us that Soren loves rap, and even enjoys rapping occasionally. So she decided to give him a surprise…

Soren reacts appropriately to Lavinne’s rapping!

…by rapping to him! She chose “Your Love” by Nicki Minaj for the occasion. “It was my first rap, which I practice for months. I was a little nervous at first, but my heart immediately warmed up when I saw the look on his face. It was priceless!”

One more for the albums!

Soren and Lavinne, we love your wedding story and your beautiful wedding. Thank you so much for sharing your most treasured day with all of us at Wishing Tree and with our readers! We wish you both all the best in your new journey together.

A little note from our couple…

“We enjoyed working with Wishing Tree for their professionalism and efficiency. Their fee might be a little higher than most, but very reasonable if you are looking for a vendor with good experience, and offers quality and variety. The table settings were stunning, and amazed all our guests. Even our photographers were truly impressed!” – Soren and Lavinne

A majestic evening in pink and gold at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

With the Palace of Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors as an inspiration, it should be no surprise that this wedding reception at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is the picture of stately elegance. How perfect that this celebration of love is dressed in hues of the official celebratory bubbly – champagne!

Together with the fantastic Cindy Chang of Nupts & Such, who helped our bride and groom plan and coordinate their most treasured day, we transformed the ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur into an inspired space, designed for a grand evening of elegant romance.

See all the beauty and details captured by photographers Louis Loo and Andrew of MunKeat Photography! Now, before you take you back to the ballroom, let’s start with some details from earlier in the day of the wedding…

The tea ceremony, decorated to reflect our couple’s Chinese heritage.

The bride has been a wonderful customer of ours for years, ordering flowers for her special occasions and special people in her life. “It wasn’t merely business,” she says, “It was also a friendship with mutual understanding and trust. Lily has never failed me each time I sought her help and expertise – and my wedding was no different.”

Flowers for the bridal ride, and flowers for our gorgeous bride.

A stunning photowall with handmade flowers.

A beautiful spread of sweet treats.

Our bride’s wedding gown was also an inspiration for the wedding decor – elegant with a touch of glitter. “We wanted something more grand, with gold and shimmers as a base, and pink to highlight and complete the look.”

While she credits Pinterest with much of the ideas she had for her wedding, we believe that her own style and taste are truly the foundation of the design that we have created – and a culmination of six months of working very closely together on the details.

“Once you have decided on your direction, the rest just falls in naturally!” she says. “There is no need to compare with other people or other weddings; I did what I was comfortable with and at my own pace.” We can’t agree more with that piece of sage advise!

The bridal table makes a boldly romantic statement.

One of our bride’s favourite parts of the decor was the oversized paper flowers tied to the backs of each chair at the bridal table. “The touches of pink and ivory amongst the subtle mix of high and low floral arrangements provided for a soothing atmosphere and offsets the golds, which I was initially worried about being too gaudy.”

Close-up of the bridal table’s centrepiece.

The bridal table against the Hall of Mirrors backdrop.

This is one of the most eye-catching and bold backdrops we have ever seen for a wedding, and we love it! But the only reason it was perfect for this wedding is because our couple set the tone and atmosphere for it, through their fashion, colours, decor, and even the menu.

You can never be too young or too old to be inspired. Our bride visited the Palace of Versailles for the first time at a tender age of 6 while tagging along with her parents, and was very intrigued with the opulent Hall of Mirrors – an impression that never left her through the years. Since she couldn’t bring 500 guests to Versailles, she brought a piece of Versailles to KL!

Lush and full floral arrangements for the stage.

A simple and elegant wedding cake to complement the wedding decor.

For the guest tables, our couple went with three different set ups. It’s a clever way to create lots of visual interest and stimuli, especially with the number of tables they had for the evening. For the round tables, there were tall centrepieces and low centrepieces…

Create a gorgeous ballroom landscape with controlled use of shimmer, colours, and textures.

There were also two rows of viking tables, draped in shimmery tablecloths, accented with tall candelabras and low, lush floral arrangements spanning the entire length of the tables. Simply breathtaking!

Loving the details, both close-up and from afar!

To our dear couple, we are so happy and honoured to have been chosen to be a part of your big day and and your life journey. Thank you also for sharing the photos and details with our dear readers. We hope this wedding can be an inspiration to those of you who are planning a grand life event but may be afraid to go big. With the right touch, anything is possible!

Our bride left us a message, which we are delighted to share:

“Wishing Tree has made my wedding experience somewhat breezy and effortless. I am glad I appointed Cindy from Nupts & Such to work with Lily and I, because they were always efficient and timely, but never pushy. I knew everything would be alright as long as we were a team. I’ve realised that it’s important to be able to be honest with the people you work with – it certainly helped to have a prior friendship to build on!”

Jack + Benz at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Hello, dear readers! As we approach Christmas and an end to another wonderful year, we are by no means done with “wedding season” in Malaysia. Today we are excited to share with you a feast for the eyes, a toast to romance – the beautiful wedding of Jack and his bride, Benz.

Gorgeous gold hues… all-white florals and linens… deep red goblets on every table… We’re loving all the details and hope you do too!

Jack and Benz’s wedding reception is timeless and elegant in white!

A big thank you to Louis Loo for the sumptuous photos of this very special evening, and to the couple’s wedding planner (and former Wishing Tree bride), our dear Sherly Abd Aziz of Tie The Knot, for chatting with us for this feature.

Jack and Benz entrusted their big day to Sherly almost entirely! “The only thing Benz wanted was an all-white theme, to complement her engagement party in Bangkok with similar aesthetics and ambience,” Sherly explains. “Timeless and elegant, with statement pieces without making the ballroom feel overly cluttered. A careful balance between simply classic and grand luxury.”

The gorgeous photo wall envisioned by Benz.

Photo wall details up close.

Benz also wanted a garden-inspired photo wall for the foyer outside the ballroom. “In Thailand, photo walls are a super big deal and usually quite large,” says Sherly. “The biggest we could do for the area was 16ftx8ft.” The bride shared her vision for this feature and in fact lugged the green turf background all the way back from Thailand for us to work with!

The garden-inspired ballroom entrance decor, with a tree to tie together the garden theme, from foyer to reception and into the ballroom.

Since the bride had a garden-inspired photo wall in mind, and Sherly had planned a floral garden decor for the ballroom, she decided to stick with a garden theme for the reception area outside the ballroom as well. “But it didn’t necessarily have to follow the all-white decor inside the ballroom. Firstly, would provide an element of surprise for guests when they entered, and secondly, we get two different ambiences for the wedding.”

Chandeliers, ivory linens, gorgeous florals and candlelight set a romantic stage for speeches and the cake-cutting ceremony.

At the start of her wedding planning, our bride was initially a little anxious about wedding decor in Kuala Lumpur as she had been a part of countless weddings in Bangkok that are very lush and exquisite, and she was unsure if decorators here were able to meet her expectations. So how did we do?

“Everything,” Sherly tells us, “They loved everything, and loved how classy the decor was without looking over the top.” This was despite the fact that Sherly had not allowed Jack and Benz to drop by the ballroom while we were setting up. But our bride was so ecstatic after seeing the photo wall and entrance decor that she got ready earlier than intended so that she could come down to greet guests and take photos with them before the wedding dinner!

Thank you so much, Jack and Benz, for entrusting Sherly and Wishing Tree with your wedding reception and believing in us to carry out your vision for such a special evening. Thank you also for sharing your story with our readers! Your wedding has shown us yet again that a white wedding never goes out of style.

Here a little note from Sherly that we’d like to share:

“Working with your decorating team is not only based on clear communication and transparency with timely updates, but also based on complete trust – as my clients are with me. Working with Wishing Tree is always a breeze. I only have to tell them my vision for the decor, and which flowers I absolutely do not want.” – Sherly Abd Aziz

Shaun + Vivian at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

A white wedding never goes out of style, which is why it’s called “classic”. Shaun and Vivian went with the classic white wedding, gorgeously elegant with all-white furnishings and linens, but added sublime pastels and textures to create a wedding reception to remember. What a vision!

We have some photos of Shaun and Vivian’s beautiful evening to share with you, courtesy of the talented Louis Loo.

Congratulations, Shaun and Vivian!

Like many modern-day couples embarking on their wedding planning, Shaun and Vivian started their research online, and stumbled upon our website. After much browsing, “we were impressed with Wishing Tree’s arrangements and decor,” says Vivian. “We were confident that Wishing Tree would be able to deliver our requirements and do an excellent job, so we engaged their services without hesitation after the first meeting.” Thank you for putting your faith in us, guys!

A novel idea for Shaun and Vivian’s entrance – a runway platform!

Due to our weather and our culture of throwing rather large-scale wedding dinners, anywhere from 200 to 1,000 guests, a great majority of Malaysian wedding receptions are held in ballrooms or halls. The newlyweds (and in some instances, their entourage as well) make their way through the doors, down the aisle once more, and greet their well-wishers. If you’re seated along the aisle, you get a great view of the couple. Otherwise, you just get a glimpse of them between a sea of bobbing heads and cameras.

Shaun and Vivian did something a little different for their entrance – with a raised platform in the shape of a runway! What can we say other than we love it. The idea was functional, decorative, and simply glamourous.

The inspiration for Shaun and Vivian’s reception is just as unique as their idea for the runway platform. They love the aesthetic of Korean wedding photography, with the soft lighting, flowers, and modern romantic style.

“We truly enjoyed working with Wishing Tree. Lily is very passionate about her profession and we felt her excitement from day one and right until our big day. Everything turned out perfectly and surpassed our expectations. Wishing Tree gave us a very memorable experience. We highly recommend Wishing Tree to those who can’t settle for second best.”

Ken + Jean at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

We have the beautiful wedding of Ken and Jean to share with you today. Congratulations to our lovely couple! Thank you for choosing us to play such a big part in the most important day of your life, and for sharing your story with our readers on our blog.

Now let’s get to the photographs, provided by the talented shutterbugs at Adam Ong Photography.

A shimmering evening in cream, pink and gold.

Our couple chose the ever-stunning Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur ballroom for their dinner reception venue. After browsing through “hundreds or maybe thousands” of pins on Pinterest, Jean was particularly attracted to the cream, pink and gold combinations, so we set about creating a classic and elegant atmosphere that would also complement the dramatic crystal lighting of the ballroom.

Ken and Jean, making their entrance as husband and wife.

Jean came across our work while researching real weddings, wedding blogs and photographers’ profiles. “I came across Wishing Tree’s work and really liked it,” says Jean, “I have a thing for flowers and all things pretty, and Wishing Tree’s style and taste caught my eye!”

Together with her wonderful planner, Jovita Lo, they were instrumental in creating the ambience for the evening by showing us helpful examples of what Jean liked. All the way down to the flowers. “I was definitely particular about the flowers and colours! Peonies and hydrangeas were on my must-have list.”

Not everyone has the time for or interest in DIY projects, but Ken and Jean did! Check out some of the things they did to add a bit of interest and personality into their wedding decor…

The photogenic entryway became a popular photo spot with a DIY project, inspired by a cafe. Ken and Jean made the “K+J” lightbox themselves, with a bit of help from a friend with the welding.

Incorporating feathers and sparkly gold to her wedding decor, the bride decorated wedding favours with feathers dipped in gold glitter.

Earlier in the planning process, Jean was also partial to a Great Gatsby theme for its feathers, sparkles and sequins, but realised they didn’t really represent their personality. She went with single feathers with sparkly gold tips instead.

Initially, the “K+J” lights were meant for the stage, but Jovita’s keen eye felt they should be moved to the entrance to suit the ambience. “It turned out a great decision as it served as a wonderful backdrop for photos with guests as it was conveniently located at the entrance,” shares Jean.

The bridal table’s centerpiece was one of Jean’s favourite.

We are so glad to have been able to create the ambience for your wedding, Ken and Jean! Thank you for your note, that reads something like this:

“Definitely a worry-free experience with Wishing Tree! We were very satisfied with their work and will definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a decorator with an eye for beauty!” – Ken and Jean.
