Douglas + Lydia at Hilton Kuala Lumpur
“We will always remember Paris.” Pretty pillows for Douglas and Lydia’s ring shot, the deliciously-coloured macarons are a big nod to Paris where they shot pre-wedding photos.
In our previous post, we introduced Douglas and Lydia who tied the knot in a lovely and intimate ceremony at Holy Light Lutheran Church in Kuala Lumpur. The timber interior with its dark beams and vintage chandeliers was the perfect backdrop. The next day, the vintage theme is carried forward to the dinner reception at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, together with a touch of travel to commemorate an unforgettable trip to London and to Paris.
Some vintage and travel decor, to tie in the theme from yesterday’s church ceremony and our couple’s travels to Paris and London.
The Groom gets his own box at the reception, for well wishes and gifts from guests. In the Chinese culture, these are usually in the form of cash gifts placed in special red packets (“ang pow”).
Beautiful memories from a wonderful time together, adorn tabletops in the registration and cocktail reception area.
We are happy to create the ambiance for a magical walk down the aisle for Lydia one more time. This time, as Douglas’ wife.
The walk down the aisle together was the highlight of the evening for Douglas and Lydia, as they are surrounded once again by beloved family and friends, amidst the amazing arrangement of candlelight and Lydia’s favourite blooms.

A towering centrepiece for the bridal table, a sight enjoyed by Douglas and Lydia as they dined.
We are ever so happy to be a part of a wedding journey with our couples who have chosen Wishing Tree for the most important day of their lives. Thank you, once again, Douglas and Lydia, for letting us be such a big part in your big day and for sharing it with our readers on the blog as well.

“It was wonderful working with Wishing Tree. Lily was professional, approachable and honest, from the moment we met. Through her guidance and vast experience, she took the bits and pieces of our thoughts and ideas and captured the essence of what we really wanted, even though we were clueless in the beginning. We still remember her words: “Trust me, it’s going to be beautiful!”
Indeed, it was. The outcome was breathtaking, a masterpiece. The arrangements were grand, but not exaggerated. All our guests had only praises for them. Lydia loves flowers and Lily got to the heart of her dreams.” – Douglas and Lydia
Douglas + Lydia at Holy Light Lutheran Church
Our warmest congratulations to dear Douglas and Lydia on their beautiful union that took place at the Holy Light Lutheran Church in Kuala Lumpur. We are honoured to have been a part of their church ceremony and their wedding reception at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, and we thank you for sharing the events of your big day with our readers on the blog!
Many thanks to Jian Han of Moco Bridal for the lovely pictures.
Douglas and Lydia prepare to dedicate their lives to each other in an opening prayer.
While many couples preparing for their big day hire a wedding planner to help with the organizing and ideas, Douglas and Lydia chose to plan their own wedding. “There’s a first time for everything,” says Douglas – we gotta love their “can do” spirit!
Douglas and Lydia worship at Holy Light Lutheran Church so it was fitting that they said their marriage vows there. It is a lovely church, featuring lots of natural wood that gave their intimate ceremony an air of tradition and warmth. Coincidentally, it was a church member who passed our contact to Douglas and Lydia after attending a wedding that we decorated at Luther Centre in Petaling Jaya.

Personalizing their own wedding was an important part of the process for Douglas and Lydia, who worked together on various DIY projects for their big day such as their wedding invitations and wedding favours. “There was a lot of DIY in our wedding,” says Douglas, “which was quite a bit of work, but in the end it made our wedding that much more memorable for us.”
A quiet moment at the altar, decorated with Lydia’s favourite roses and hydrangeas.
Douglas reveals that the flower arrangements at the altar was one of Lydia’s favourite parts of the wedding ceremony. As he and his wife stood between the pedestals for most of the ceremony, it created an atmosphere of warmth and sweet romance for Lydia who “really loves flowers”, says Douglas.
A proud and touching moment for our bride’s father as he walks her down the aisle.
Lydia’s favourite flower adorn the pews lining the aisle.
One of Lydia’s favourite flowers is the hydrangea, and there was no lack of it on her wedding day. Each pew was adorned with lush, pink hydrangea and white satin sashes with pink and lilac coloured ribbon. They accompanied Lydia all the way as she walked down the aisle as a single lady for the last time. This was also one of her favourite, most memorable moments of her big day.

Next up, Douglas and Lydia turn up the glam dial for their wedding dinner reception at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur!
Jin + Hilda at Hilton Kuala Lumpur
Hello dear readers, we have a new wedding for you! Our couple, Jin and Hilda, recently tied the knot in Kuala Lumpur and we had the pleasure to have been a part of their beautiful ceremony and reception. Many thanks for sharing your big day with us and on the Wishing Tree Blog!
Thank you, Bonnie Yap, for the wonderful wedding photographs. The actual day of the wedding was planned by Mun Tzin of Milestones.
A ring pillow decorated entirely with Baby’s Breath.
There is something special about a couple that come from different cultures or different countries. Jin is Malaysian-born, while beautiful Hilda is from Hong Kong. They currently live in Malaysia. Hilda heard of us through friends who had seen our work, and who have hired Wishing Tree in the past, and so we are honoured that she came to us for her big day.
Reception table decorated in white, blue and brown. with pine cones, Dusty MIller silver leaves and coloured ribbons. We love this touch of masculinity with the colours and unique textures.
Hilda initially wanted a theme with “winter blue” flowers, but it wasn’t possible to obtain flowers with the particular shade of blue. So we went with an all-white palette with accents of blue that came from ribbons sourced by Hilda.
Lush floral arrangements in vintage silver stemmed vases, set on mirrored pedestals.
Jin welcomes Hilda with a kiss as she meets him at the “altar”.
The wedding ceremony was set up at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, attended by beloved family and friends. Hilda had the concept in mind and shared her vision with us. We chose lilies, dendrobium, matthiola and roses for the magnificent flower arrangements flanking the wedded couple as they said said their vows.

The wedding party moved into the grand ballroom at Hilton Kuala Lumpur for the dinner reception in the evening….
An elegant centerpiece fills the space with gorgeous blooms and candlelight.
One of Hilda’s favourite arrangements was the centerpiece for the main table. In a tall, silver vase filled to the brim with phalaenopsis orchids, roses, and white hippeastrum, while smaller vases featured green nosa, matthiola, and more roses. The beautiful lace table cover was the bride’s own, bringing a lovely touch of vintage to the whole set up.
Lovely candlelight providing warmth and romance amidst the pretty matthiola and roses, reflecting off the vintage-looking hurricane vases.
For some guest tables, vases of white matthiola, white hippeastrum and silver leaves, arranged among clusters of candles.
Tall vases of baby’s breath were also used as centerpieces for guest tables.

Jin and Hilda seal the deal with a sweet kiss on the stage.
“Wishing Tree was highly recommended by friends due to their professionalism, trustworthiness and creativity. They were very helpful and reliable, just the kind of people you want to ensure a memorable experience and a truly special wedding. We were very comfortable handing over the planning and the set-up, as we knew Wishing Tree would be able to deliver exactly what we wanted for our big day.” – Jin and Hilda
