Petter + Deborah at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

This is the second part of Petter and Deborah’s wedding, the dinner reception at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur following their beautiful and memorable church ceremony at St. Mary’s Cathedral earlier in the day.

Thank you, Alan Yong of The Photoz for the lovely shots!

The main table for Petter and Deborah’s dinner reception, with the centerpiece bursting with gorgeous hydrangea, eustoma, peonies and phalaenopsis orchids.

Deborah initially wanted an outdoor dinner reception, but knew it was more practical to choose a hotel ballroom instead. The hot and humid weather, not to mention the sometimes unpredictable rain, is a huge factor when it comes to deciding on an indoor or outdoor venue in Malaysia. And so we went to work on her vision for the evening of her big day…

Petter and Deborah’s guests fill the foyer at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, decorated with floral arrangements that complement the theme inside the ballroom.

Using the same colour palette from her daytime church ceremony, we created an elegant evening look using Deborah’s favourite flowers of eustomas, hydrangeas and peonies, among others.

“When I first walked into the ballroom on the day of the wedding I was overwhelmed. I got a sneak preview of it before the dinner, and it was beyond my expectations. The combination of flowers we had chosen and Wishing Tree’s accents of candelabras and crystal candle holders were a midsummer night’s dream!” – Deborah

Guest tables at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur ballroom decorated with candelabras and tapered candles, ornamented with a simple posey of lush, white eustoma and crystal beads. Low arrangements of individually-vased bunches of flowers at the base provide more texture and a layered look.

Elegant and stylish, yet intimate and welcoming. The ballroom was a pleasure to use as a canvass for many ideas. As Deborah put it, “The spectacular lights on the ceiling and clean lines of the Grand Hyatt ballroom was the perfect backdrop to have fun and be creative with the decoration.” The candelabras with their skinny candles and strings of crystal beads lend a slightly vintage-inspired air to the table decor, and the bunched flowers at the base, a little country chic. Put together in a modern setting with gorgeous lighting, white linens and glass, and you’ve updated the looks.

After seeing photos of the wedding dinner, we received comments from people who were surprised with the size and height of the centerpieces. From the photos of the table arrangements above that do not feature people, we have to say the centerpieces look far from imposing… But, not until after you have seen this photo below!

Petter seated at the main table, with the lush centerpiece as a gorgeous backdrop for photos from any angle. The tall candelabra centerpieces for the guest tables also provide beautiful lighting and aesthetic.

Remember the giant flower pom poms from Petter and Deborah’s church event? They made a second appearance at the wedding and were used to decorate the lobby.

The floral installation using giant flower pom poms was a hit with family and friends!

Thank you so much, Petter and Deborah, for sharing your big day with us. It has been a pleasure and we hope to see you again in the future. Wishing you all the best!

Andrew + Maya at Cyberview Resort & Spa, Kuala Lumpur

Today, we feature the wedding of Andrew and Maya, decorated in black and white, with a dash of gold. And it is nothing short of stunning as you will see in the photographs here, captured by Anna Rina Photography.

Andrew and Maya’s gorgeous reception is a vision with black and gold accents against a white backdrop.

Thank you, dear Andrew and Maya for sharing this most treasured life event with us. Their wedding reception was held in Kuala Lumpur at Cyberview Resort & Spa.

Our beautiful couple brought their vision to life with the help of their capable wedding planner, Cheryl of Chic Occasions. Bespoke stationery (lots of it!), created by Joyce of Thistle Cards, played a significant role in truly personalizing their wedding, adding much fun and flair to the design and aesthetic aspects of their big day. Scroll down to see more!

Just some of the personalized signs created by Thistle Cards that greeted guests upon arriving at the reception area.

At the start of their planning process, Andrew and Maya had decided on a black and white theme. They loved the boldness of such a clean-cut and defining theme, and through their extensive research, saw how classy and stylish it could be. Along the way, they added a third colour to soften the palette and make the theme a little more “rich and royal”.

Gold is definitely one of the top trending colours in the design these days, from fashion to interior design and everything in between. Applying it cleverly (and with some constraint) can easily elevate a space or ambiance from pretty to pretty awesome.

The beautiful monogram created for Andrew and Maya, classically stylish in its simplicity.

Maya had attended a friend’s wedding and loved the decor, which she later found out was by Wishing Tree. She asked her wedding planner Cheryl about us, and was able to get in touch with Lily quickly. Maya and Andrew were very involved in every single detail of their wedding, working closely with Cheryl and fine-tuning their list to what was possible to achieve within the budget. We provided detailed sketches of their desired tablescapes, including a mock table set-up so that our couple knew what to expect.

One of Maya’s favourite part of the decor, Andrew and Maya’s personalized monogram on a white carpet provided by Wishing Tree.

While our couple knew what to expect, their family and friends had absolutely no idea. We love this element of total surprise that Andrew and Maya sprung on their guests! “We kept the theme and decorations completely secret from them,” says Maya.

She adds, “I remember the moment when Andrew and I walked into the room before the guests did, so that we could see the place alone. It was so beautiful and breathtaking, we were grinning from ear to ear! It was definitely a once in a lifetime moment and we will remember it forever. Throughout the evening, our family and guests were coming up to us and saying how they had to stop at the entrance and take it all in.”

We are happy to see more and more wedding receptions using long dining tables in Malaysia. It just extends our canvas for a lot more possibilities in terms of design, which in turn allows you to achieve more for your dream wedding. Here, Maya and Andrew chose to add round tables among the long ones.

What a great idea to place your bar at the front of the hall or near the bridal table. It is easier for guests and the celebrated couple to mingle, plus it will always look like the party is where the couple’s at!

Another view of the bridal table. Right at the front is a black and white checkered dance floor that Cheryl set up for them.

Gold accents in the lightning, furniture, and of course, the beautiful wedding cake custom-designed by Gateauxlicious.

Andrew and Maya’s wedding cake is a fine example of the “less is more” philosophy, don’t you think? Exceedingly stylish in its simple and elegant design while incorporating the couple’s monogram and favourite phalaenopsis orchids, and skilfully striking that balance of lines and textures. The mother-daughter team at Gateauxlicious did a great job!

We have a few more photos from this beautiful night…

Pink mocktails for all guests!

How thoughtful of Andrew and Maya to provide tired feet with comfy flip flops for dancing!

Andrew and Maya, engaged in much love and laughter throughout the night.

“Wishing Tree helped make our dream wedding a reality. Everything we wanted was executed perfectly and that was extremely thrilling for us. We greatly appreciated the professionalism they showed throughout the process, and the promptness in replying emails and correspondences. Every detail was explained to us so we knew what we were getting, and the sketches and mock-up table arrangement were superb. Special thanks to Lily for understanding what we wanted and revising the budget several times as we made changes along the way. We cannot imagine not having worked with Wishing Tree. For our wedding, we got exactly what we wanted and more!” – Andrew & Maya

Philippe+ Caryn at Ritz - Carlton Kuala Lumpur

We are honoured to have been chosen to decorate an amazingly gorgeous wedding for our equally lovely and gorgeous couple, Philippe and Caryn. Thank you for choosing Wishing Tree to provide the ambience for your most treasured life event, and for allowing us to share these beautiful details with our dear readers.

Our gratitude to the infinitely talented Mun Keat for the photographs you will see here!

Caryn and Philippe held a Chinese traditional “tea ceremony” at home… how stylishly understated!

One of Caryn’s favourite parts of the wedding decor was the Japanese origami paper cranes, handmade meticulously and with love by her uncle. We strung them up for the Tea Ceremony in the morning.

When we think of Caryn and Philippe, “elegant” comes to mind immediately. It is no wonder that our couple chose to create a classic and elegant atmosphere to celebrate their big day with loved ones. A blush palette, with cream and champagne hues with accents of gold, Caryn said… And with lots of candlelight, mood lighting and drapes for warmth and romance.

Textures galore! The ballroom at Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur is transformed into a romantic space.

Our bride is a big lover of flowers, so it was only natural to have all her favourites at her wedding. Pink and white peonies, hydrangeas and lilies were top on Caryn’s list, and they are simply the perfect flowers for lushness and romance. Caryn entrusted us with the responsibility of choosing the other flowers that suited her theme. The colours were to be soft and muted, and she didn’t want the arrangements to look “too done up or perfect”.

In the reception area outside the ballroom: white orchids and white lilies on mirrored pedestals (left), and pink peonies with African mix (right).

We created a simple yet elegant atmosphere for the reception area outside the ballroom, where guests would mingle. Crisp, white arrangements of orchids and lilies set atop mirrored pedestals was a mix of modern and romantic. On the tables, smaller glass vases with pink peonies and African mix provided a dash of colour.

Using soft lines and textures on the wedding cake, and placing a single flower on your service plate can easily up the romantic factor.

If classic and romantic is what you’re going for, remember to keep your colours and lines soft, and incorporate pleasing textures wherever you can. Drapery and lots of candlelight definitely help in a big, big way!

One of our favourite photos of the evening, that encapsulates the whole mood and atmosphere of this beautiful wedding. The low floral arrangements for guest tables comprise lush white hydrangea, ivory roses, white matthiola and cream eustoma.

Tall floral arrangements for guest tables are striking at any level across the ballroom; they consist of white hydrangea, white phalaenopsis, and white and ivory roses.

Each table for guests featured a lovely centerpiece. Tall centerpieces were used on the tables flanking the bridal walkway, to add visual interest from the entrance all the way to the bridal table.

The very lush, very eye-catching centerpiece for the bridal table, comprising all-white blooms – roses, hydrangea, peonies, cymbidium, ornithogalum, matthiola and tulips.

The bridal table centerpiece was another favourite of our lovely bride. Bursting with texture from the lush petals, to the silverware and glassware, and romantic lighting doubled with the reflections from mirrored panels, the centerpiece was an attraction in itself. Caryn later told us that it had become a popular backdrop for the countless photos taken that night.

On the stage, a floating canopy of white cherry blossoms with stringed, white feathers and lots of shiny crystals.

We decided to do something a little different for the stage decor, where Philippe and Caryn would perform their cake-cutting ceremony. As you can see from the pictures above, the stage is not a big space and it would be unsightly for our couple to stumble around any floral arrangements that shared the limited floor space with them. By creating a floating canopy, it not only saved space, but it also helped with the overall visual and spacial interest – vertically, instead of horizontally and potentially messy.

Thank you so much, Philippe and Caryn, for sharing this beautiful day with us and our readers. We wish you both a most wonderful life journey together.

“We had a great experience with Wishing Tree as our decorators. Lily and her team were consummate professionals every step of the way, and the planning and execution of the event was flawless. Wishing Tree managed to transform the ballroom and translate our ideas seamlessly in creating the romantic ambience we were looking for.” – Philippe & Caryn

Derick and Elaine at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

A glamorous setting in red, gold, feathers, candelabras and pearls.

Derick and Elaine (well, mostly Elaine) had red and gold in mind for their wedding decor, with “loads of glitter and bling”. One fine evening they went to the cinema to catch a show, and there it was, a big poster of Leonardo DiCaprio in the starring role of the movie that would inspire their fun and glamorous wedding. That was how ‘The Great Gatsby’, set in the roaring 20s, the epitome of excess, glitz, and glam, provided the inspiration they needed for their wedding design team.

A big thank you goes out to the amazing Jim Liaw and Sara Lam who photographed this wedding and came back to us with these beautiful photos. Many thanks also to Derick and Elaine for sharing with us the honour to be a part of their wedding and in turn become a part of the Wishing Tree Blog!

Red roses, mokara orchids and dianthus amidst strands of pearls, glitter and candlelight for a dramatically romantic ambience.

In the past, we have decorated weddings inspired by movies such as ‘Avatar’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, and even music videos such as ‘Lady Marmalade’. Some might feel like movie themes are a bit quirky or campy for an event as important as a wedding, but unless you are recreating the movie set, your wedding can be very stylish and elegant.. with a touch of drama.

Our couple had been looking for a venue for their wedding and visited numerous hotels in Kuala Lumpur, many of whom mentioned us when asked about wedding decorators (thank you so much!). Derick and Elaine then came to our office, had a lovely chat with us while looking through our portfolio, and chose us for their big day. They also picked our dear friend, Mun Tzin, who planned the wedding.

The bridal table’s centerpiece stands tall and grand, crowned with glorious feathers.

Our lovely bride worked closely with Mun Tzin and Lily in putting together the details, using a mood board to keep everyone on the same page and in the same direction. Flowers were hues of red and champagne, with a bit of pink of offset the richness of the reds. Pearls, glitter, bling and feathers were the mainstay for the evening’s glamorous ambience.

Take your centerpiece up a few notches by adding feathers, strands of pearls and candlelight. A little effort goes a long way!

Roses were mainly used for Derick and Elaine’s evening reception, and as you can see, many roses were needed for all the centerpieces and decor. We had a little hiccup with the roses because it was snowing heavily in some areas from where our roses came, so we had to quickly find a new source… and it turned out to be Kenya!

Two long tables on either side of the red carpet, decorated in the same theme of tall arrangements, red feathers, strands of pearls and crystals, and candlelight.

Derick and Elaine’s wedding dinner was truly a sight to behold that evening. They took a theme from a movie, and made it theirs by using their favourite colours; we could easily call it “The Great Gatsby” with an Oriental twist… Well done, Derick and Elaine! 🙂

“Thank you so much for the amazing support and being the best floral decorator. We loved your beautiful floral arrangements, pearls and crystals, and pretty much every detail of the decor. We appreciate your professionalism and most importantly, the very personal heartfelt experience of working with your team. You helped us create our very own glamorous wedding that we will remember forever. We will always recommend your team whenever possible. Thanks again!” – Derick & Elaine

Terrence + Ivone at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

A majestic centerpiece stands tall, enchanting everyone with its hanging tulips.

Ivone had always envisioned her wedding as elegant and romantic; her wedding ceremony would be decked out in white, while the dinner reception would be dreamy, romantic and pink, with lots of candles. It was our honour to bring her vision to life on the most important day of her life. Thank you Terrence and Ivone for sharing this beautiful day with us and also with our readers here at the Wishing Tree Blog!

The photographs are by the incomparable Jim Liaw. Our bride shared with us that she’d always known that Jim would be her wedding photographer, even before Terrence proposed. Jim photographed her brother-in-law’s wedding and she fell in love with his work.

Keeping the colours clean and minimal, using a mostly white palette with a touch of blush.

Tulips and crystals add a little magic in the air… Our bride’s favorite part of the decor.

Terrence and Ivone got to know of us through weddings of family members and friends that they had previously attended, and since our bride was her own wedding planner she hired us right away.

Lush peonies and roses adorn all the guest tables.

Terrence and Ivone ooking gorgeous on their big night.

Wishing Tree also decorated their wedding ceremony that was held earlier in the day. Wanting an atmosphere of serenity, Ivone went with an all-white decor, from chairs to vases and including the oversized, handmade paper flowers that adorned the chairs lining the aisle. We love the elegant simplicity of this idea.

Oversized, handmade papers flowers and paper petals add a lovely touch without breaking the budget.

Paper flowers and real flowers both provide lovely textures and drama to any setting.

Hydrangea and roses for ridesmaids’ bouquets; peonies for the bride.

“People are the key to success in any company, and working with WIshing Tree on my wedding was the wisest choice I made for our big day. They were absolutely great to work with and my dream wedding came true; I felt like a princess. Lily was completely honest with me about what was doable and what wasn’t in terms of the budget. She understood what I wanted, took in all my suggestions, and expertly guided me with her recommendations. Without the awesome decoration my vision would not have come together. The pretty decor was just like icing on a cake.. Perfection!” – Ivone

Eng Hian + May at Zion Lutheran Church Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

In Malaysia, it is extremely common for weddings to take place in at least two parts – the first part is usually a smaller cultural or religious (or both) ceremony, followed by a dinner reception in the evening. Today we feature the wedding ceremony and wedding reception of our lovely couple, Eng Hian and May, captured beautifully by Mun Keat Photography.

Thank you, dear Eng Hian and May, for sharing your day with us and our readers!

Eng Hian and May’s lovely rustic daytime palette of dusty pinks and greens.

We met our couple through their wedding planner and coordinator, Cheryl of Chic Occasions, who has worked with us on many events and recommended us. Eng Hian and May did not have a theme per se, but had a strong idea for a colour palette that would include blush, pinks and greens. For their dinner reception, it was to be all-white with elements of bling and sparkle.

Bountiful bouquets for the beautiful bride and bridesmaids.

For the registration table, May added a pop of colour with aqua paper lanterns, providing an element of contrast that also complements the colour theme.

Their church ceremony was held at Zion Lutheran Church in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. Outside the venue, the registration table was decorated simply but elegantly. The larger floral arrangement encased in a glass and wood lantern comprises lush pink matthiola, pink roses and white baby’s breath. The pop of aqua in the form of paper lanterns, adds a little more depth to the table decor.

Now let’s take a look inside the church…

Each pew bench gets a floral treatment, which helps make the aisle look very lush without the bulk.

What a great idea to have this little guy lead the wedding party in a tricycle as ‘Ring Security’!

As with the aqua paper lanterns, the bridesmaids add a pop of colour with their pretty gowns.

The beautiful aisle leading to the altar. Design inspired by the brillant Karen Tran of San Diego.

Later, Eng Hian and May’s dinner reception takes us to the grand ballroom at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur…

From the ballroom entrance to the bridal table, Eng Hian and May keep it classy with modern pedestals, simple florals and candelabras.

Does the guest registration table decor looks familiar? It should, as it first made its appearance at the church ceremony earlier that day.

All-white blooms adorn the bridal table, with sparkly elements for a dash of glam.

Another view of Eng Hian and May’s bridal table.

“I had heard the rave reviews of Wishing Tree, and I’m very glad to say they certainly lived up to their reputation. From a service point of view, I found Wishing Tree to be dependable, trustworthy, and accommodating. As for the deliverables, well, the photos speak for themselves! Lily really tried to understand what we liked and what would work best while staying within a reasonable budget, and I didn’t feel like they gave us “recycled” or “cookie-cutter” designs. Thank you for your gorgeous work that made our wedding extra special and so memorable!” – Eng Hian and May.

Sanjeevan + Nisha at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

What comes to mind when you think about “summer vintage”? Many people imagine along the lines of nature and the outdoors, with blue skies, lanterns and lace, pale summery colours that fit the “vintage” look.. you get the idea. For our featured wedding reception hosted by our lovely couple Sanjeevan and Nisha, in the beautiful ballroom at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, “summer vintage” could not be more different.

The lush centerpiece of pink peonies, green hydrangea and champagne-coloured roses against a backdrop of glittering crystals and flickering candle light. Silver-stemmed vases and lace ribbons lend a vintage atmosphere to the setting.

Our couple is effortlessly classic and elegant, so it was no surprise to us when they said they loved vintage weddings – they are an evergreen style! Pink, green and champagne hues take centre stage at Sanjeevan and Nisha’s wedding reception, with favourite colours of blush shades and refreshing greens that happen to thrive in the summer. It’s practically “summer” in Malaysia all year round, so we don’t need to be too technical with the term.

A closer look at the beautiful blooms that make up the centerpiece.

Nisha and Sanjeevan planned their own wedding, which was put together and coordinated with lots of help from family and friends. It’s a wonderful thing, when family and friends get in on the action and really become a part of the wedding, not just as guests but as an extension of the wedded couple. Nisha and Sanjeevan found us while browsing on the Internet, and through us got in touch with Jim Liaw Photography who captured the wonderful moments of their big day.

Guest tables decorated with tall centerpieces of candelabras, glowing warmth and romance throughout the ballroom. The centerpieces feature wedding flowers not just at the top but also at the base, so whether you’re looking up or down, you always have flowers in your sight.

Bringing the outdoors in, we decorated the stage with simplicity in mind.

Beautiful Nisha is queen of the night in a classically elegant cream saree with sparkly diamante appliqué.

Sanjeevan and Nisha make their entrance as husband and wife, surrounded by family and friends, and their favourite flowers.

Thank you both for letting us be a part of your wonderful wedding, and also for sharing it with our readers. We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness! Thank you also for leaving us this lovely message, we truly appreciate it.

“A wedding is a great occasion that needs lots of planning to make it a most memorable and beautiful day. Wishing Tree made our dreams come true. It was a beautiful experience from start to finish and we couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you all for everything, our wedding day was a truly unforgettable one.” – Nisha and Sanjeevan

Douglas + Lydia at Hilton Kuala Lumpur

“We will always remember Paris.” Pretty pillows for Douglas and Lydia’s ring shot, the deliciously-coloured macarons are a big nod to Paris where they shot pre-wedding photos.

In our previous post, we introduced Douglas and Lydia who tied the knot in a lovely and intimate ceremony at Holy Light Lutheran Church in Kuala Lumpur. The timber interior with its dark beams and vintage chandeliers was the perfect backdrop. The next day, the vintage theme is carried forward to the dinner reception at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, together with a touch of travel to commemorate an unforgettable trip to London and to Paris.

Some vintage and travel decor, to tie in the theme from yesterday’s church ceremony and our couple’s travels to Paris and London.

The Groom gets his own box at the reception, for well wishes and gifts from guests. In the Chinese culture, these are usually in the form of cash gifts placed in special red packets (“ang pow”).

Beautiful memories from a wonderful time together, adorn tabletops in the registration and cocktail reception area.

We are happy to create the ambiance for a magical walk down the aisle for Lydia one more time. This time, as Douglas’ wife.

The walk down the aisle together was the highlight of the evening for Douglas and Lydia, as they are surrounded once again by beloved family and friends, amidst the amazing arrangement of candlelight and Lydia’s favourite blooms.

The view that welcomed Douglas and Lydia as they made their way into the ballroom.

A towering centrepiece for the bridal table, a sight enjoyed by Douglas and Lydia as they dined.

We are ever so happy to be a part of a wedding journey with our couples who have chosen Wishing Tree for the most important day of their lives. Thank you, once again, Douglas and Lydia, for letting us be such a big part in your big day and for sharing it with our readers on the blog as well.

Douglas and Lydia pose for a photo in front of their vintage floral backdrop that they made. We love a couple that crafts together!

“It was wonderful working with Wishing Tree. Lily was professional, approachable and honest, from the moment we met. Through her guidance and vast experience, she took the bits and pieces of our thoughts and ideas and captured the essence of what we really wanted, even though we were clueless in the beginning. We still remember her words: “Trust me, it’s going to be beautiful!”

Indeed, it was. The outcome was breathtaking, a masterpiece. The arrangements were grand, but not exaggerated. All our guests had only praises for them. Lydia loves flowers and Lily got to the heart of her dreams.” – Douglas and Lydia
